Begin 2018 with Great Pediatric Dentistry
The new year is upon us. This is the time to begin planning how to best take care of your oral health and the oral health of your family. With the turn of the new year, it’s a great time to reiterate to kids just how important it is to take care of their teeth.
One of the major ways to ensure your kids’ teeth are healthy and ready for the rest of the year is by scheduling their bi-annual dental cleaning. A dental cleaning enables our pediatric dentists to survey your children’s mouth to check for any possible issues. Here are some of the oral health issues that can be prevented through a dental cleaning:
- CAVITIES: During a dental cleaning, our dentist conducts a thorough evaluation of a child’s teeth. If there are chips or breaks in teeth that can lead to cavities, we can quickly fill these areas with dental fillings. If certain teeth appear to be losing enamel, we will pinpoint those so that they can receive specific attention when brushing and flossing. If cavities have started to arise in teeth, we will assess the situation and recommend having them removed and filled with dental filling before they grow and advance into major oral problems.
- GUM DISEASE: While conducting a dental cleaning, our dental hygienist will be able to discover whether or not gums are suffering from periodontal disease. This is obvious if gums are swollen or begin bleeding when flossing. By removing the plaque buildup during the dental cleaning and if the patient continues to floss, gum disease can be eliminated.
- DENTAL ADVICE: The most beneficial part of conducting a dental cleaning every six months is that our pediatric dentist can provide parents and the child advice on how to better protect their teeth in the future. If there are major issues, our dentist will be able to provide parents with a plan of how to deal with varying oral problems.
